SAVE OUR LAKE LEOTA!

As you may know, SOLE has been working tirelessly for many years to develop a plan to remove the silt from the lake and restore Lake Leota to its glory for generations to come. We now have a plan, which we hope will see the lake dredged in late 2007. We anticipate that this plan will cost approximately $500,000.

Now, we need your help.

The City of Evansville will help with the funding, but we cannot rely on the City alone. We need the citizens and businesses of Evansville to pitch in, and we hope you will help us kick start our fundraising efforts. If we can collect $500,000 this winter, we believe we can get Lake Leota restored next winter.

We are contacting several of the most prominent Evansville businesses with the hope that we can collect some substantial contributions to begin the drive with a splash. We hope you would consider becoming one of the first Lake Leota Saviors with a gift of $25,000 or more. If you would consider giving at that level, you will be a true visionary for our community.

SOLE has received recognition as a 501(c)(3) organization, so any donations to SOLE will be tax-deductible.

Fundraising

The SOLE Committee has emerged as an effective volunteer group:

1. The SOLE committee has contributed significant financial support to the effort.
   1. SOLE was instrumental in writing multiple successful grant applications.
   2. SOLE has raised thousands of dollars through dozens of fund raisers; this money has been used to pay consultants and for projects such as rip rap replacement.
   3. SOLE has volunteered hundreds of hours for data collection resulting in thousand of dollars of consulting fee savings.
2. The SOLE committee has conducted or assisted in significant technical efforts:
   1. SOLE assisted the Un. Of Wis. Platteville with a study conducted in the fall of 2001.
   2. SOLE sampled the sediments and hand analysis completed.
   3. SOLE assisted Strand Associates in completion of a Lake Management Road Map in the spring of 2004.
3. SOLE conducted community outreach and assisted with activities related to a planned drawdown of Lake Leota.
