S.O.L.E. Meeting Minutes, February 27, 2008

PARK BOARD/PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE ACTIONS THIS MONTH:

Park Board met on Feb. 18.  They did a review of the Vierbicher report and discussed how they might support the lake restoration.  Could some of the soil be used for a sledding hill in the West side park?  Also considered how to continue the wall restoration on the Allen Creek stone work.  SOLE can borrow the cities large Vierbicher map for the Earth Day presentation.

The Public Works Committee met on Feb 26.  Some residents from the south shore of the lake feel their trees dying because the lake was drained.  They pointed out that the reasons for the lake drawdown have been met and requested the lake be refilled with the water from the spring melt.  The board tabled the proposal and instructed the staff to bring repair cost for the dam repair and get more information on soil boring possibilities.  Dave Sauer had also contacted the WIS. DNR and received a list of 10 herbicides that may be used on the lake to control the trees and vegetation.  The Wis. DNR may also have equipment available to assist with the spraying.  Dan W. advises he has had 2 conversations with the land owners but has not obtained the letters of intent.  Public Works may consider the tabled items at a special March 10 meeting or at the next regular meeting.

Tom advises he called Tom Sweeney regarding the upper creek program and is waiting for a return call.  Gib will E-mail Tom a list of upper creek property owners.

Alvin suggested the city also contact Steve Leeder and Ed and Greg Arnold who farm Leeder's property as a back-up place for the dredged soil.
